Circle of Song

Circle of Song's Spring Concert on Saturday, May 17 2008
Dorrie Stewart-St. Onge
May 16th, 2008

We invite you to join us for the Circle of Song's Spring Concert. To be held at 7:30 PM on May 17th at the Barre Congregational Church. Doors open at 7:00 PM and the Resurrection Brass will welcome you with mood music at 7:15 PM.

Our gifted Director Julie Rawson has selected a diverse and wonder filled program. Pieces from all over the globe sung in their "native" languages show the heart and soul of these countries. Sung in French, Contre Qui, Rose is a poem written by Rainer Maria Reilke. Tumbalalaika is a Yiddish Folk Song about a young man torn between two women. An African dance song is Thina. Sung in Zulu it is a fast paced round that is hard to forget. A Rachmaninoff vespers, Bless the Lord Oh My Soul is sung in Russian with a solo by Nina Marcinowski.

We have not forgotten our own country's composers. We sing the tango Cheek to Cheek by Tucker and Walker. One of our favorites is Billy Joel's And So It Goes. With his great harmony, timing and a solo by David Chase how much better could America be represented?

Maybe by a medley direct from Broadway. Les Miserables with it's multiple solos, stirring lyrics and history of the French revolution bring us from Broadway back to France. This powerhouse of a musical piece will feature stirring solos by Charlie Miller, Kathy Litchfield, Joan Bevers, Gale Young, Anne Kneeland, Jack Kittredge, Phil Lafollette, Kate Marcinowski, Dorrie Stewart St.Onge and Maria Gabriella.

Our Accompanist is Janet Paoletti from Athol. Janet is well known in the area as she has played for musicals, concerts, directs the Central Congregational Church Choir, and plays at various churches. We are lucky to have her expertise, sense of humor and talent to keep us in time.

Our Director Julie will show off her clear soprano voice in a solo of Brahms Ye Are Now Sorrowful. She will also play with The Resurrection Brass who will perform a variety of pieces.

Midway through the concert the Resurrection Brass, members Steve Aliquo, Joey Orszulak, Julie Rawson and Jim Pavao will provide a broad selection of new music including a Strauss polka, an American rhapsody and some blues. Our concert will end with Pacem Blessing with soloist Carol Erickson and flutist Juli Kneeland.

Admission is free, but if you like, a donation can be made to make it possible for us to continue our concerts. Refreshment will be served after the concert. We hope you will be able to attend our Night of the World's Music.
